What is BG HitCoat® suitable for? Usage conditions.

What is BG HitCoat®?
BGHitCoat® is a ceramic coating with excellent resistance to abrasion (link to ABRASION), corrosion (link to CORROSION)and temperatures of up to 1,900 °C.
What environment is BG HitCoat® suitable for?
BG HitCoat® is suitable especially for furnace atmospheres to protect tubes, refractories and fibrous insulation. (link to BOILERS)Low temperature HitCoat® 200 version is also suitable for liquid or mixed environments, for example for flues and stacks operating below the dew point. (link to CHIMNEYS)
What material should the equipment suitable for BG HitCoat® coatings be made from?
From any common material. BG HitCoat® has high adhesion to all regular structural materials (over 10 MPa / 1,450 psi, measured in a boiler, not in a laboratory). A typical example is a burner where BG HitCoat® is sprayed over CrNi steel, ceramics (chamotte) and even fibrous insulation at the same time. (link to BURNERS)
What advantages does BG HitCoat® have?
Thanks to its excellent abrasion and corrosion resistance, BG HitCoat® extends the serviceable life of steel, refractories incl. fibrous insulation, many times. Thanks to its ability to prevent clinkering & caking and other deposits as well, BG HitCoat® increases thermal efficiency of boilers. This effect is still intensified by the great ability of BG HitCoat® to absorb radiated heat (emissivity >0.95). A great advantage of BG HitCoat® is the possibility to spray the coating at high speed on site, i.e. in the boiler. As a result, planned shut-down is delayed minimally.
Is BG HitCoat® dangerous substance?
BG HitCoat® is water-based ceramic coating containing no chemical solvents or volatile organic contaminants (Zero VOC‘s). It is non-flammable and non-explosive.

Delivery and mixing of BG HitCoat®

What does raw BG HitCoat® look like? Is it powder?
No, BG HitCoat® is a thin liquid created by mixing 3 components (2 liquid ones and 1 powder one) and super-clean water.
Can we buy one can of BG HitCoat®?
No, BG HitCoat® is a four-component composite, which is mixed in a special expensive ultrasonic mixer just before the application. Therefore, we are solely offer BG HitCoat® including the work.

Spraying of BG HitCoat®

Is it necessary to transport boiler parts into a workshop to spray them with BG HitCoat®?
No, BG HitCoat®can be sprayed on site, i.e. in the boiler. It is possible to spray new parts in a worksop or in a yard (prefabrication). Only damaged spots and welds are repaired by BG HitCoat® after the assembly.
How much time is necessary prior to BG HitCoat® spraying?
BG HitCoat® coating is very quick – many tens of sqm / sqy per day. Standard performance is 60–100 sqm per day for one crew. More crews can work on big boilers at the same time. BG HitCoat® doesn't smell and isn‘t harmful.
What surface preparation is necessary prior to BG HitCoat® spraying?
Sand-blasting for metal purity (Sa 2.5-3) for metals (tubes) and dust blowing or vacuuming for refractories
How soon is it possible to touch a new BG HitCoat® layer after the spraying?
In a few minutes.
Boilers consist of many different materials (ceramics, metals, fibrous insulation). Is it possible to spray BG HitCoat® on each of them?
Yes. BG HitCoat® has high adhesion to all regular structural materials (over 10 MPa / 1,450 psi, measured in a boiler, not in a laboratory). A typical example is a burner, where BG HitCoat® is sprayed over CrNi steel, ceramics (chamotte) and even fibrous insulation at the same time. (link to BURNERS)
Is it possible to spray BG HitCoat® around the entire surface of tubes in more rows?
Yes, we do that regularly (link to HEAT EXCHANGERS) but the spacing between tubes should be sufficient (> 20 mm / ¾").
Is it possible to spray BG HitCoat® inside tubes?
Yes, we do that regularly (link to HEAT EXCHANGERS) but tube diameter should be larger than 20 mm / ¾" and tube length shorter than 10 m / 11 y. A typical example is LUVO (inlet air preheater), where BG HitCoat® protects against corrosion and prevents ash plugging.
